Who bumped this thread from last year?! oh wait...

Just give it a rest all right, fedtards, he isn't #1 or slam material anymore. Be very glad he notched up that WTF record.

Agreed - tying Sampras in Ws (and being a better clay and hc player) will be more important.

LOL... Roger played the same amount of matches as Djokovic and almost as much as Rafa.

Federer is MUCH more durable than Rafa and Djokovic .

Tournaments played

Roger 19
Djokovic 19
Nadal 20

Matches played

Federer 76
Djokovic 76
Nadal 82

If Nadal and Djokovic couldn't handle this year then they wont be able to handle the same next year and will lose more and give Roger the advantage of re-gaining #1

Re: Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the

No he will never be No.1 again. I would like him to do it, but it is not possible, because he is 30 years old and he needs to have more points than 2 very good players, able to play every tournament on every surface, even 3 players if we are counting Murray too. So 30 year old guy won´t play every tournament like those younger players, so he won´t have enough points to get higher. Far more important are slams for him than to play every Master 1000 plus other lower ranked tournaments to get points to surpass Nole and Rafa.

Felt Djokovic and Nadal played more often with more intensity which is more exhausting.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

That's a big advantage for fed. He does not have to play so physical to win. Fed is the only one of the top 4 who does not seem physically or mentally fucked.

Federer: Future number one.

Fed vs Rafa

Wimbledon: 7-2
U.s open: 5-2
AO: 4-1
FO 1-9
WTF: 6-0
Weeks at number one: 302-140(about)

Really no contest

Re: Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the

He won 3000 points in the last 3 weeks, he'd only won 2620 by the French Open in June last year. In that time, Rafa defends 4590 and Nole defends 6750 (!).

Points since Wimbledon:

Nole 4205 (Basel is non-countable)
Rafa 1680
Roger 3990
Murray 3660

Looking at that, I'd say #2 is a distinct possibility.

I don't think he'll get #1 unless he wins the Australian Open, or gets to the final while Rafa and Nole fall by the wayside. But the fact that people are talking about it again is a slightly good sign.

That's like saying 'he has a big advantage because he's better.' Can't be used to denigrate his achievements.

Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the top?

Roger // Rafa // Raonic // Söderling // Goffin // Ivo // Wawrinka // Baker // Delpo

Fed would REALLY have to up his consistency of winning and do it under conditions, which arent YEC conditions where the other top opposition is tired/injured/burned out.. If the conditions were faster indoors/low bouncing conditions sure.. But they aren't. They are higher bouncing, outdoor, slower conditions and during the year where the opposition isn't physically whiped out..

Good luck with that

In beginning of 2010 Nadal and Djokovic crashed before SF in AO and Federer won the tournament, Ljubicic won Indian Wells and Roddick won Miami. If things get back to normal and Djokovic stops beeing on fire he can easily lose alot of points and who will be there to collect them if not Federer?

Ofcourse if Djokovic plays like in this season Federer wont have much of a chanse on slow hardcourts.

Fed could always beat mediocre and injured opposition, that is the story of his career.
Everytime he faces a motivated and talented opponent, he loses.
One more straight set beat down by Nole in Australia will bring Fed down to earth and will
show everyone who is the top dog

Re: Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the

It's actually very likely if the only reason being that djokovic/nadal are injured and/or unable to repeat last year's problems. Both are already having shoulder issues and its a fact more problems will arise due to how they play which may jeopardize them in early 2012. Federer meanwhile will stay injury free and if it comes down to a durability contest he could easily swipe the spot.

If that doesn't happen it will come down to federer getting the number 2 seed and avoiding djokovic/nadal in the slam semi's and then things could get interesting. Fed really needs the numer 2 spot if he has a chance to get to number 1 and make djoker and nadal battle to the death.

Yeah, mediocre opposition like beating Djokovic 5 times in slams between 2007-2011. Or like WTF last year where he beat the whole top 5.

You remember the last time a 30 year old finished the season 64-12 and beat a peaking mid 20s years old future great nr1 in a slam?

I dont.
