Roger Federer d Mardy Fish 6-1,3-6,6-3

Great effort by Roger overall. It's not easy when Mardy is playing well and aggressive with no pressure at all. I thought Roger had to come up with some good shots and good focus to play at the level required since he knew he had already qualified. Mardy can feel good about his play in this match even though he lost. He really gifted that match to Nadal in the first match. If Mardy had been this relaxed he would have beaten Rafito.

Now go ahead and wrap it up Rogie!!!

WTF RR: Federer def. Fish 6-1, 3-6, 6-3

Didn't see a thread.

Great attacking-tennis by both. Fish goes 1-2 (eliminated beforehand) and Fed stays unbeaten on his way to the semis.

Went walkabout in the second, otherwise a decent performance. Was a lot more focused against Nadal but that's to be expected.

Nadal would have needed about 7 sets to win that many games. well done Fish.

Re: Roger Federer d Mardy Fish 6-1,3-6,6-3

After a dreadful start of the match (à la Tsonga?), Fish realized that he had nothing to lose here and stepped it up in the second set. This, combined with a classic mental walkabout from Federer, resulted in Fish deservedly winning the second set.
I'd call it a "consolation set".

Thereafter the result was never-in-doubt, Fed stopped the rot and did his business. Certainly not his best performance (pretty much impossible after that masterclass against Rafa), but decent enough, imho.
And to be honest I'd rather see these Mirkaland sets happening during this dead rubber than in possible later stages of the tournament.

Well done Rog, all three matches won.
Mardy... too big an event for him with his current form and lack of experience. Still, great effort of him to even be there. Hopefully a good start of the season in 2012 for him as well, as he's surely capable of playing some mighty good ball.

I felt Mardy played great in that 2nd set, it's not that Fed just gifted it away.

It was a combination of both.
And yes, Fish doesn't get enough respect in general. He played very well against Rafa as well.

Fish has played well in patches,a set here and a set there but wasn`t consistent in any match throughout. The first set against Nadal, the second set vs Tsonga and today`s first set were awful by Fish.

The third set was very good stuff from Roger. He broke Fish with 4 winners. And served 8 aces after that. 2 aces/per serving game = impossible for Fish to break. Game set and match Federer.
