Ch Bratislava R1: Berrer def. Andreev 6-4 6-7(5) 6-2
Why is this match result important? Well, of course, it's a match of two decent players, two (former) ATP players. But, that's not the main reason. The main reason is that with this result, Igor Andreev will not finish in the top 100 for the first time since the 2003 season. Even when he tore his ACL in 2006, he returned to the top 100 the very next season and eventually to the top 20. Unfortunately he's been bad for about 2.5 seasons now, with no end in sight. He also defends over 80 points at the start of the season, so his ranking could eventually be around 140 or so. So, this is the time to reflect on your memories of Igor Andreev as a relevant ATP player, as we won't be seeing him in ATP MD's that often in upcoming months.
