Yes, we will lose but we have a great chance next year, and Nalbandian knows that.

Davis Cup is still relevant but it's a fact that it has lost a lot of importance over the years

nah, i wouldnt count you guys off yet

ponyboy seems to be playing quite well and most likely he won't make it to london (meaning he'll have more time to prepare for DC) whereas I assue nalby must be already training hard for DC

on the spanish side, nadal is struggling quite a bit and ferrer can get affected by overplaying lately -plus he's going to london too.

so i think the argies do have a chance bigger than what most people think. pony and nalbandian can play great tennis on clay and they can both beat the likes of nadal and ferrer, esp. if those 2 aren't in the best conditions.

all in all, the spaniards are obviously still the favourites but i wouldn't count the argies out

What Fedal doesn't care, most of tennis world doesn't care either On topic, it's the finals, so I guess anything is possible, why not. Besides, Davy however great isn't going to win a slam, so nothing wrong focusing on something where he can really make a difference

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

OP is spot on. Only nations that win it care (big tennis nations obv). It's like the Caesars Cup in poker, nobody gives a rats ass.

First of all, unlike soccer and even rugby, the DC doesn't really have a storied history and in fact has been taken relatively lightly by prior legends of the game. In fact, you don't have to look too far past the likes of Federer and Nadal, who have regularly missed DC ties ( including Nadal earlier this year and Fed last year)

Secondly, tennis is not a team sport, it's actually an insvidual sport. This has to take away from the accomplishment of winning a "title" as a team.

If Nalbandian really wants to represent his country he should have focused more on winning an Olympic medal.

It's great to see a man so dedicated to representing his country but perhaps his country may appreciate more of a dedication to Nalbandian losing weight and focusing on some kind of a run at the 2012 olympics.

Best of luck to David and the Argentines in Spain next month but hopefully if things don't go their way all the pressure that Nalbandian has put on himself and his teammates doesn't haunt him and his compatriots in the long run.
It’s hard off hand to think of a post that is so disregarding of tennis history as well as recent facts about the Davis Cup. It’s so blatantly wrong, the the nicest thing one can say is that the post must have been constructed solely for trolling purposes.

As to what Argentines want and expect from their sportsmen, I’ll leave it up to them to say.

Re: Nalbandians Davis Cup Obsession

Davis Cup >>>>>>>>>> Olympics. Davis Cup is a tennis tournament. The Olympics is a multi-discipline competition. If I were a tennis player I would rather win the Davis Cup than the Olympics because of the Davis Cup' historical importance.

Second, as a Fedtard, I wish he'd play more Davis Cup ties. It would be nice if he actually won one.

Re: Nalbandians Davis Cup Obsession

It's not about DC only.
It's a question that Nalbandian should ask himself everyday:
DO I WANT TO PLAY PROFESSIONAL TENNIS?

Re: Nalbandians Davis Cup Obsession

Well... I recently made a thread where I told everyone what DC means here in Argentina, a Non-Tennis country.
Davis cup is the most important tournament for argentinians. And, I think Dave isn't the exception.

But I also think DC is an important team-tournament. I really think a Masters1000 tournament ins more important in a players' career than DC.
But as a team-task, DC is the most important tennis tournament, you're fighting for your nation.
Djokovic didn't won Davis Cup, Serbia did, the words you hear when Nole has a break point is "Adv Serbia", not Nole, not Rafa.
