Montanes was leading 4*-3, Kuku had 4*-5, 0-40, Montanes saved 3 MPs.

In the tie-break, Montanes 3-0, 4*-2, then 4*-5, 6-5* and 7-5.

Albert 7/8 break points saved in the final set, which is what ultimately made the difference. Also, Kukushkin's service percentage at 41% in the third and 47% overall, cost him because Albert seemed to win most of his second serve points throughout the match, especially at the end.

Ultimately, trash was taken out, crisis averted, and only two more weeks of having to concern myself with this clown.

Very very very very clutch, pre-2011 Montanes level. It being this close not a great sign though

Revenge for his 1st round US Open loss. As for Kukushkin, not cracking the top 50 on the back of winning an ATP title (last October) is pretty miserable.

He choked also, and various times, he was lucky at the end, so i dont see too much clutchness there
