It's incredible to think that the AO was played mid-december in the 80's. That would go down really well today.

Nobama, who's that in the airport-scene? Don't tell me it's Fed?

I think they could scrap YEC. For me it's a meaningless event, yeah, it has the strongest field of the season but it still an MM event compared to slams.

What happened to the idea of moving RG and Wim apart?

I believe it has been settled already that Wimbledon will start one week later from 2015(?) onwards.

Now when a few North American events got cancelled it really makes more sense.

Re: ATP-ITF Calendar/Schedule Suggestions, Shorter Season

I was thinking about this, what if there were European indoor events simultaneously with the Asian swing. Two Euro indoors in the week between USO+DC and Bangkok/Kuala Lumpur seems quite stupid. And Orleans and Mons Challengers have decent entry lists, Orleans had e.g. Kohlschriber. What if the calendar were:

Davis Cup
Metz/Bangkok
St. Pete/K. Lumpur

And maybe one Euro indoor in the week of Tokyo/Beijing 500s

That would enable good indoor players to vulture points while top guns are in Asia. Clay courters already have their vulturing events, Latin America in February and Europe after Wimby.

The South American clay tournaments will take place after the Masters Cup, but they won't be mandatory, so the top players can have 2 months of rest at the end of the year.

Silly decision but frankly I'm just glad they've extended the grass season one week, so I'm not complaining.

Grass should be 6 weeks

2x 250s (Eastbourne, Holland)
2x 500s (Queens, Halle)
Hamburg Masters
2x 250 (Nottingham, Gastaad)
Wimbledon

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

Bercy goes well with Rotterdam in February BUT I am fearful of Basel's future. That event deserves its place in the calendar.

Overall, it's not too bad but it is disappointing the pig got what he wanted. Now they have next to no incentive to speed up the surfaces and rid us of this boring gamestyle that's so prevalent in today's tennis.

That'd actually be 7 weeks, the 5th slam Newport would be after Wimby.

Grass should be 5-6 weeks in June and at least 2-3 weeks in February.

That could be included instead for Americans who want to stay at home for a bit

Maybe in India?

Definitely in India. Maybe Thailand or Taiwan too. God knows Dubai have the money to put up grass courts next to the hundreds of acres of golf courses they built in the desert.

Ideal February:

AUSTRALIAN OPEN
DAVIS CUP
European indoor 3 weeks, Asian grass 3 weeks, South American clay 3 weeks
Dubai grass, Acapulco clay

INDIAN WELLS
etc...

I once checked India's recent years' grass DC venues from Google Earth. One was a temporary grass court on, IIRC, cricket stadium. Another was a tennis venue that had two parallel courts, one hard court, one grass court. But they had renovated that complex, and now it obviously has only a hard court. So I don't know if India could host an grass ATP event.

But post-AO grass swing would be awesome. Australasia has countries with grass tennis traditions, Australia, New Zealand, and India.
