And that is perfectly fair as far as it goes, but it is wilfully blind to ignore strengths & weaknesses in current players' games that might affect how they perform in different conditions. You yourself were happy to proclaim Sampras's suitability for the Age of Wood - & you were probably right.

The playing conditions had already slowed down in 2003, you couldn't possibly expect him to come in behind every second serve.

this "playing conditions being slow" is the greatest myth and the greatest bullshit going.

the significantly faster modern game more than makes up for so called slightly slower playing conditions.

the game is fast and getting faster by the month.

are you guys even watching the right sport or what?

they are blasting nearly 100 mph drives into the corners and we have some toothless clowns here still crying about so called "slower playing conditions".

what a pile of absolute horse shit. nobody intelligent buys that garbage.

even the women are blasting drives in excess of 80-90 mph into the corners.

i have lost nothing mate.

the facts are facts and we dont even need the facts. all you have to do is just watch the game.

it is fast now and getting faster by the month. the runaway speed of the game has a lot to do with the technology and the of course the modern athletes.

they are simply bigger, faster, stronger, and more fit than at anytime in the past.

everage height of a tourning pro in the top 100 is slightly over 6 foot 2. that is quite significant.

the definition of serve and volley remains same.....we are not calling tsonga a serve and volleyer just because he stays back due to slowness of courts.....

Re: Dr. Sampras , Ph.D, MD, DVM, Believes This Is the Strongest Era Ever

the slowness of courts has been really exaggerated, particularly at slams.......australian open is fast these days compared to rebound ace days, french open is uber fast compared to the old days......wimbledon is slightly slower and us open decoturf is fast as well......so i see they actually sped up slams overall......

just because the players retrieve a lot more balls on an average doesn't mean the courts are as slow as you make it out to be......

Absolute tosh. All of the slams have been slowed down except for RG which was slow to begin with. In fact, 95% of the tournaments on the calendar have been slowed down.

they slowed down ONLY wimbledon, but even then grass is still grass and big servers and first strike players are still at advantage......just look at some of the service stats, wimbledon is the leading slam in the department of service games held over the last few years......

australian open - fast
french open - fast
us open - fast

95% of what tournaments, kid? clay is supposed to be slow and clay constitutes about 35% of the overall tour.......they sped up madrid, rome and french open ridiculously......

leading hardcourt masters events like indian wells, miami, toronto have always been slow......cincinnatti is still very fast as usual......

if any slowness in the big events, it's mostly after the us open......eliminating carpet was one step towards slowness for sure and they slowed down a few indoor events which i couldn't care less about.....

Rubbish. All of the slams are way slower than they should be. RG is the exception because it's supposed to be slow.

Wimbledon still has low bounces the surface does give fast servers an advantage, but it's still slow as hell compared to a few years.
