Re: USO SF: Djoker does it again, def. Federer 6-7 4-6 6-3 6-2 7-5, saving 2 MP
Really good match. Very sound tactics from Federer, at start he refused to go into any kind of baseline rallies, going big on FH even at the prize of shanking and on BH side killing rallies with alternating short slices and deep controlled top spins. All that made Djokovic not getting into any kind of rhythm. And on big points quite a surprise with down the liners from both wings. I liked his approach on shorter balls, he was waiting until the last moment to see where is Novak moving, taking away the main strength of his defense, his anticipation and wrong footing him time and time again.
In the second set Djokovic was getting more and more frustrated, unusual errors started to creep out of his racket which allowed Roger to play more relaxed and not forcing things, waiting for the right moments and spots.
In third set No.1 stopped looking nervous, probably from accepting the possible defeat and opened his shoulders. Federer dropped his guard a bit, not mixing up things and the outcome of that set was inevitable when you allow Djokovic to get into either striking or defending rhythm.
Federer looked a bit surprised that Novak did not fold completely and tried to implement game plan from the first 2 sets, but neither was execution that well, nor Djokovic looked even remotely bothered by it. All he could do was to stay as close as possible as long as he could and wait if Novak’s level will drop down. It did not happened, cause his confidence was growing by the second and he was becoming unplayable.
Good effort from Federer to save set points on his serve and to start serving first in the fifth set. It was probably the turning point. In the decider he extracted his remained conserved energy from the previous set, went for broke and it paid off. Nervousness came back into Djokovic game from trailing on the serve and that should have been all that Federer needed. And then the drama had to happen… Brought back from the dead with momentum firmly on his side Djokovic closed the deal.
Have you heard the news?
Bad things come in twos.
But i never knew
'Bout the little things
Every single day
things get in my way.
Someone has to pay
for the little things.
