Re: Does Tomas Berdych need a new coach?

Ever since Wimbledon last year he's hardly played a good tournament. Even when he has like in Australia as you said he meets a big player and absolutely collapses.

Do I think he needs a new coach too? Yes. Krupa seems to have done all he could in terms on developing his game, now he needs a coach who can make him use all that potential. I also think it's crazy that Krupa still hasn't sorted anything out with the serve to be honest.

His game at the moment is an utter joke too, match against Soderling a few weeks ago was barely top 200 standard.

He played pretty well in Miami against Rafa but theres always hope for Tomas we know he can turn it on in a heartbeat.

The second set in that match IS the best set of tennis he's played since Wimbledon last year, there's no doubt about it. It's sad because people can call him overrated but when you look at some of his best performances you really do see his potential.

One thing I've noticed in all the matches he's played well in the serve has been working, that's the key! Serving at 50% first serves isn't going to get it done, hardly any player can beat top players with that stat.

Re: Does Tomas Berdych need a new coach?

First off to be honest I think he has already peaked. Last year was his absolute max potential reached. A slam final, another slam semi, a top 7 ranking. That is as good as it gets for him. He never had the potential to win a slam or be a top 5 player, and never will.

I do think he needs to make some changes though if he wants to stay a top 10 player and have a chance to win another Masters or make another slam run at some point. I dont know if a new coach is that answer or not.

Tomas and Gael have the same problem : Consistency

no Gael's biggest problem is his insistence on playing a mostly defensive way behind the baseline game that doesnt take advantage of his insane athleticsm and huge serve and forehand weapons which he could be using to dominate and bully physically like a male Williams.

And, as far as I've heard, a new girlfriend too.

Certinfy said so over here some time ago... don't know if it's just a rumour.

Re: Does Tomas Berdych need a new coach?

Apparently Safarova told Arvidsson that they 2 were no longer together last week. But then when Arvidsson posted on her website or something (translated into English):

"I made a fool of myself a bit last week. I met with Lucie Safarova (Tomas’ girl for a long time) with a Suitcase (…) on the way home;
Me: Well, you should go home. So you should not stay and watch Tomas?
Lucie: No, we’re not together anymore …. (Oops, embarrassing)"

The thing is though it was taken off quickly so it might just be a misunderstanding. However this was the day after Tomas got destroyed by Robin in Bastad which would make sense why Tomas played such a horrible and uninspired match.

Also Lucie has pulled out of 2 upcoming tournaments in the States I believe and Tomas hasn't signed up for any events he isn't required to play... It's looking bad.

Re: Does Tomas Berdych need a new coach?

^^ Thank you Jase for your info!
Well, let's indeed hope it's just some 'misunderstanding'... I mean, they've been together for what, six years or so? That's a mighty long time for such young people, and I can well imagine they both need some time to get over it.
My best wishes to the both of them.
