Wimbledon R1: The hype not met. Isner def. Mahut 7-6(4) 6-2 7-6(6)

Expected result and expected that last years' epic would not be met. Mahut didn't play very well today and the match was dull, quite frankly. Isner was good and he was more aggressive than last year in this match, which is something he needs to continue.

Now v Almagro, should be a good opportunity for an R3 here and really, he has a good draw to make a run here.

Mahut a break up in the 3rd just couldn't seal it. Very unlucky to be drawn against Isner, considering how much Nico loves the surface. Good job by Isner.

Mahut could have taken that 3rd set. Dissapointed indeed, wanted MAhut to win but in all honesty, Isner is actually quite good. Can't believe the guy is unseeded.

Draw was fixed for nothing

Almagro next. Maybe Isner won't get massacred in the 2nd round this time.

The media milked the rigged draw for all it was worth

Thankfully, we will hear of it no more.

this match was extremely boring, weak play from the baseline by Mahut, his only magic was occasionally at the net and some nice passing shots. very let down, should've stopped watching but was praying for a marathon. all kudos to Isner though, his game is not looking bad at all besides some weak net approaches

Just as dull as last year.

Mahutttt, he deserves to get a win over Isner someday, shame he's out. Lovely net exchange, it's nice they're good friends now

Pretty woeful grass court season for Mahut this year, considering it's his best surface.

Mahut simply wasn't aggressive enough today, although much credit to Isner for a solid performance and for closing the match out before it went to a 2nd day and the hype started up again. Isner said that they were likely going to go to dinner together tonight, and I agree with Silver that it is cool to see them be such good friends now (as they are destined to be linked together for life).

Until this match they were 1-1 h2h

So they were. I was thinking about the hopman cup rematch, which isner won (i guess it doesn't count). Isner won the marathon, and then the two following rematches. Before the marathon an isner/mahut match wouldn't create much interest, but i just want him to get a win someday, for sentimental reasons, because i really felt he should have won the epic that day
