Almagro is the seed, but if I were to put money on an upset, this match might be the one.

"When I'm asked, how is it to be around Federer, and what is he really like, I always reply, "I wish people could meet him when cameras or an audience aren't around, as he is one of the nicest people I have ever met when stringing on tour. " -- drakulie

Re: WWW: WMB R1 Nieminen v Almagro

Up until today I thought Almagro, but now I'm going to say Jarkko in 4 or 5 sets. Neither are grass players so it will be dependent on who is more comfortable on the surface and can implement their gameplan the most effectively.

I think Nieminen will get this. Almagro isn't good on grass, though he definitely could be.

No, he'll never be good on grass.

Yes, he can be. He probably won't, but he can be. His movement isn't great, but he's a bigger hitter with a big serve and he could do well on grass.

Re: WWW: WMB R1 Nieminen v Almagro

It takes more than that to be good on grass. A lot of guys have big serves and big groundstrokes, and struggle on grass. His movement is somewhere between below-average to horrendous on grass, his returning is at best mediocre, and he doesn't have a transition game. Also his timing on grass isn't good enough, he doesn't have the time nor does the ball bounce high enough for him to be effective.

Re: WWW: WMB R1 Nieminen v Almagro

he could have gotten a worse draw that's for sure. I say Nico still has a good chance here, even if it's on grass.

I agree. Also on hard court. Good question why he isn't good, I'm sure he can be.
