Wimbledon R1: Benneteau def. [Q] Bemelmans 6-4 6-2 3-6 4-6 6-1

Important win for Julien for his season and his ranking. A surprising win for me given how Ruben had performed the last few weeks, but I knew this was a good match-up for Julien.

22 aces, served 71% first serves, if he keeps that up, he can definitely threaten Berdych in R2.

Ah, too bad about that final set. Guess Ruben's tank ran empty.
Congrats to Benneteau.

its always disappointing to see a guy come back from the brink of defeat only to get crushed in the decider

I disagree, I think it is disappointing for a player to be up two sets and lose, so with them winning in the fifth I am happy.

i agree that its ridiculous to lose after being 2-0 up in sets and so its good that julienne won

all im saying is that it would have been nice to see ruben make that final set a little more competitive, i mean if your going to fight to get it there then at least put up a good showing in that 5th set you know?

Good event nonetheless from Bemelmans, coming through qualifying and pushing Benne to a 5th here. Not a bad showing on your grand slam debut.

Yes! Bemelmans would have been the bigger threat to Berdych.

Too bad, I was hoping for a Halle rematch, Bemelmans played really well against Berdych there

Benneteau is actually the bigger threat to Berdych. And I think Julien has a pretty good chance of winning.

Understandable though. the whole part of the 3rd and 4th set you are battling hard to get back into the match and then once you even it, there is a relaxation and a feeling of job complete even though it isn't.
