Wimbledon R1: [17] Gasquet def. Giraldo 7-5 6-3 7-6(3)

Bad match from both. Richie was tentative, his focus was very up and down, and was poor when ahead throughout the match. Giraldo can't construct points, tons of errors, and his serve was too attackable.

The two things Richie did well was return well and do well at the net. But improvements are needed if he wants to go deep here.

Allez!!

Richard was 3 times a break up in the 3rd set and served for the match but got broken!! He got it done in the TB though!

Gasquet hit some great shots today, esp on the BH but he needs to have full concentration throughout the match in the next round!!

Pretty disappointing stuff from Gasquet (relatively to the level we expect from him on grass) but i guess a win is a win.

Giraldo had two set points in the first.

They let him play tennis once after they saw his "consistency is everything" advertisement.

Yes it was - except for the 5-0 run in the second set. But there's the old "expectations" again - the kiss of death for him.

A win is a win and he DID pull it out in 3 so not all bad, although I had MAJOR doubts at the end of that 3rd set.

Forget the choking parts, he was just poor today.
He won't even be in position to choke against Murray(if he manages to go that far) if he plays like that.

A difficult first round but Giraldo is good.

You can't possibly compare the games of Giraldo and Murray. Giraldo was just standing on the baseline hitting hard and flat every single shot. Murray is a lot more defensive and will allow anyone play their game more.
Richard after 7-5, 5-0 started to fool around and played way too loose, but it was never really in doubt and when he needed he could raise his level. It was ok for first round.

He let himself get distracted by some of the calls and the crowd as well. I could see he was getting annoyed a few times which is just silly
