Good start to his title defense!
Began a bit wobbly, went 2-4 down in the first set, only to win the next six games. He found his rhythm after the first set, and looked pretty impressive to me. His forehand was devastating at times, you can see how much confidence the French Open has given him. The biggest difference between RG and now to me, is his inside out forehand and the DTL one, they were working beautifully.
Showed great touch at the net, wouldn't mind seeing him come in a bit more often after his topspin forehand to the backhand side. And he played with a bit more variety than usual, hitting a lot of slices, serving quite a few times to the forehand side as well. Second serve was pretty poor, just rolled it in, don't know if he did that because there was no need to put more on it.
Very pleased to say the least, even though the beginning of the first set had me worried for a while.
Before I get overly excited, it was only Russell ofcourse, he just has no real weapons to do damage. Loved the two diving volleys in a row from him, and even one on the baseline in another rally
Nice little showman.
