Roland Garros ratings: Nadal/Federer final a great success

The final this year did the best score since 1999.

The final was followed on average by 5.3 millions and 36% of viewers.

In 2009 and 2010 the numbers were much lower, 3.7 and 3.5 millions. The previous Nadal/Federer finals in 2007 and 2008 did 4.3 millions.

The overall ratings for the tournament is 2.2 millions of viewers and 20% of marketshare (+35% compared to last year). That's a great success for the tournament and for tennis in France. Around 29 millions of people watched at least 10 minutes consecutively the tournament, almost half of the population.

I'll now scram before the FedFans can come rushing in to claim credit to Fed for the ratings.

You forgot to mention those number are for France only. So you should say in France at domestic market RG was very succesfull, but who knows how much people watched in globally, but i think it must be one of most watched RG in history if not the most watched- each year there are more and more people with TV i think and internet - those can watch, men´s side No.1-No.4 in SF , womens´side chinese woman in final - so a lot of people watched it in PRC - i think the numbers for TV audience must be highest in history.

Great tournament. Expect Tennis to be replaced by kindergarten softball in the U.S. with matches shown live on channel 25034 that no one has

On my NBC station, they bumped the final for a telethon to raise money for a charity. It happens every year.

Even if it wasn't the best ever quality-wise, it was an exciting final and two of the greates players ever played.

Yes the number are for France. The numbers domestically are the most important because out of the 47 millions that the tournament get from TV right, 16 are from France alone. It helps sponsoring too.

I think that Roland Garros is the most widely broadcasted slam in the world. But the numbers this year are really great. it shows that the interest for the tournament is growing.

I don´t know, but everyone is talking about Wimbledon as greatest slam so i would say Wimby is most watched worlwide. But those numbers where you get it from? i was always interrested in what money TV companies pay of slams. Have you please link for those 16 and 47 millions for broadcasting? and it is in euro or USD?

I have this article in French. This is in €

http://lexpansion.lexpress.fr/econom...es_255724.html

16 millions for France and I know recently they negociated a new contract for Europe zone (France excluded) for 15 millions.

So you know the money come mainly from Europe for the rights to broadcast Roland Garros.

Great news. The ratings are up in the US too and at their best since 1999. I would like to know the numbers for other countries in Europe like Spain, UK, Italy, Germany. The trend could be very impressive.
