tennis urban legends

which shots or abilities of a particular player do you think that tennis community unfairly portrays as horrible or as superb? hence the title, what particulars involving players do you think have become urban legends, aka not so much reality as much as just built up by the tennis community?
For example, I think that it is an urban legend that Federer has a horrible backhand... after watching the 2011 Roland Garros Semi-final today against Djokovic it was very apparent that the press/fans have exaggerated his backhand as a weakness and that he can in fact hit many winners with it... it may not be great but it's definitely not the hinderence some make it out to be!
can you think of any other urban legends about tennis players?

Re: tennis urban legends

Fed's backhand will hold up just fine, until you start attacking it with some heavy topspin shots.

feds backhand is easily one of the best backhands on tour (or was).. unless he has a certain spaniard at the other side of the net

Re: tennis urban legends

They tested Nadals moonball shots on tennis mythbusters and discovered that when the shot enters space the topspin doesn't work because of the vacuum. They did however show that the moons gravity can be used to curve the shot back within the lines of a tennis court. In conclusion it is fair to call Nadals high topspin FH for moonballs.

Feds 1H backhand was also tested and they discovered that if Fed was 6'9 like John Isner he would have no problem with his BH vs a bouncing moonball. But according to other tests it would be dangerous for Fed to play with 7 inch shoes so his BH is still a weakness.
