"The French: Roland Garros 1981" a documentary by William Klein (video)

Parts of this excellent documentary about The French can be found now on youtube, like this video with the first 32 minutes of it. Shot by famous photographer William Klein during Roland Garros in 1981. A gem of a video featuring John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Ilie Nastase, Yannick Noah, Ion Tiriac, Ivan Lendl, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, etc. Watch it, it's fantastic.

Seen it a few times and definitely worth watching.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

It's an enjoyable movie and Klein is a great photographer. Some of his other movies are also worth seeking out.

It doesn't, to me. Maybe because I was born after 1981.

awesome

God is Love. To know Love is to know God. So ask yourself if you hold any hate for another in your heart how can you have room for Love, room for God

Yeah that makes sense. Personally I couldn't give a shit about anything that happened before I was born. I mean all that history shit, the development of language, culture, political institutions - er hello, relevance to my life?

On topic, if I remember correctly there's some superb footage in this of an epic McEnroe meltdown against Lendl in the quarters.

The semifinal at Roland Garros in 1981: Borg and Pecci. Pecci had won the previous match between the two at Monte Carlo earlier that year.

Very funny at the end when Pecci and his team are talking in awe of Borg's game and his famous dropshots.
