RG R1: Ramos (Q) def. Marti (Q), 6-3 6-7(5) 4-6 6-1 6-3

Long match between these two Spanish qualifiers, well over 4 hours (a little bizarre considering the last 2 sets were dominated by Ramos). There was a lot of breaking going on in the 5th set it seemed

Winner to play Sod-Becker

Epic. Magnificent to follow these matches on a SB. Typical for RG, best tournament there is.

What an amazing first Grand Slam match for Javi

4 and a half hours of play with 6-3 6-3 6-1 sets and bloody 60 break points

I just wish you won

Marti proved more in this match than Ramos.

Albert should finally make the top 100 with this victory, I'm so happy for him But sad for Javi at the same time. Long, hard fought battle, very expected given both guys are grinders.

Javi reminds me so much of Beto Martin in playing style and stature. He really needs to beef up that serve. Losing half/over half of service points in such a long match just isn't good enough at this level. I think he has good potential to be a mid top 100 level player but without a better serve and better weaponry in general, it won't happen for him.

I wanted Marti's win but at least plus one Spanish in top 100.

Never ever give up

i really thought that that 4th set was a tank and marti would take this given the way he was coming back..especially in that 3rd set

Pity, but great match for Javi considering he's still very young
No doubt we will see more of him soon. Top 20 should be easy for him

Carlos, Tommy, Rafa, Feli, Nicolás, Marcel
Rainer, Radek, Benji Becker, Jarkko Nieminen, Melzer, Nalbandián, Tursunov, Starace, Djokovic, Youzhny
