Re: RG R1: Montanes defeats Gicquel 6-4 6-4 6-2

Marc was worn out and not 100% from the long matches he played in qualifying and last week in Bordeaux, so unfortunately he could not put together a great performance today. Really couldn't serve at all. I think he would have won had he been healthy.

With that said, Albert served great today and played a solid match, so congrats to him. Now Ruben needs to take him out in the next round.

Expected. Gicquel isn't good enough anymore for ATP-level. Not even for Montanes in terrible form.

Who is Giquel again? Kidding. But the luster is gone. He's just another journeyman, unfortunately.

Power in my time.

Um, why? Ramirez-Hidalgo?? This is Montanes, not Cilic.

Good win, Monty. Take out that Cilic-killing clown next round

Because Montanes is a good opportunity for Ruben to make an R3 of a major.

And Montanes has points to defend. Both of them need to win, not just Ruben. Montanes should win in any case.

Who would have guessed that both of them want to win?

Ruben needs the win a lot more than Montanes does. But that's besides the main point which is both are going to come to win, and it's a great opportunity for both, but especially Ruben since he doesn't get to this stage in majors often.

Nobody knows what will happen their match in next round but Montanes won't hit about 70 UEs in three sets. It is the different, what will decide I think.

Never ever give up

What a shame, I really like Gicquel's game.

I've seen Giquel for a couple of times and he definitely doesn't have the game to challenge anyone on clay.
So expected I guess.

Montanes is no Cilic. Ruben won't get any free points from errors, unless Monty is diabolical, which he doesn't seem to be. Montanes is the clear favourite, and I expect him to defend his points here.
