Why is Almagro playing Nice?

He's already won 2 250 this year (and has 3 active 250 in his ranking) so he cannot possibly win any points playing another one. besides, playing a 250 right before his favourite GS seems like a highly unappropriate decision.

is it because of the money? i really can't understand it.

i've tried my best to defend the guy but with decisions like this it gets hard not to call him mugro

Re: Why is Almagro playing Nice?

well his form hasn't been too crash hot, so he may feel that a couple matches will sharpen up his game?

or maybe he wants the money?

Re: Why is Almagro playing Nice?

Most likely some match practice and possibly the chance to win another trophy. At his level money is a secondary issue.

Re: Why is Almagro playing Nice?

Maybe he wants some more clay court practice before RG...like Magick said, his form has dipped a little bit since his South American swing, and so the confidence could really help him if he does well.

Re: Why is Almagro playing Nice?

Soderling played Estoril and he has already won 2 of the 250s as well (Brisbane and Marseilles). And he has said he will play Båstad and probably Stockholm Open as well that are both 250s. Often they promise to the organizers and schedule for it so why withdraw just because they have a better season than expected.

Money and winning more titles could be one reason but not letting the organizers down is another. I also think most players got favorite tournaments that they have always played and enjoyed before they got into the top10. In Soderlings case he also likes to play at home and help support swedish tennis. Same reason Djokovic does his Serbian Open I guess

It's not as bad as Verdasco's decision to play there last year.

Smart move on his part if you ask me. He knows he is not going to win the French or go anywhere near so why not enter a tournament you can win.

not an appropriate statement about someone who challenged Nadal the most during last years clay swing

What did he do when he played Nadal at the French last year?. He bent over. The lack of fight was embarassing.

So, better play a tournament where you have aboslutely nothing to gain? Curious logic, but obviously Mugro shares it. I doubt even money can be a reason given that a few rounds in a slam is worth a lot.

He wants the winning feeling. It's an addiction . He is not going to get that at Roland Garros.
