If Rafa beats Novak in RG...

Then... All this loses really worthed?
What do you pick... Lose Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid and Rome and still winning RG? or win I.Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome but lose Roland Garros?

Re: If Rafa beats Novak in RG...

I'd rather win RG, but what Novak has done is truly remarkable and there's no denying that he has comfortably got the upper hand of Nadal so far in this season.

Re: If Rafa beats Novak in RG...

then nadull will add a RG final to the list of "important matches" in the h2h, kind of like Federer does with Murray.

It would suck for him for sure but he would have to be focused on the US Open.

Re: If Rafa beats Novak in RG...

I would rather win the French Open rather than the aforementioned tournaments for a couple of reasons:
1. Major titles are what people remember
2. Winning the French Open legitimises Novak as a threat on clay; even if we don't consider Madrid and Rome.
3. Winning a third major raises Novak above Safin, Hewitt and Rafter.

Re: If Rafa beats Novak in RG...

The pressure is all on Nadal to stop Djokovic. Everyone expects Djokovic to lose at some point. If the Djoker does lose at the French that could be a hammer blow or it might make him double his efforts at Wimbledon. I think if he loses to Nadal it would be a massive blow psychologically. If however he loses to someone not Nadal the impact would not be as severe.

If novak loses to rafa... who cares, he wasn't expected to win it in the first place, he just won 7 tournaments in a row, including 4 masters. Nole will have his chances come US open to claim his 2 hard court majors, and maintain his number 1 ranking.

Re: If Rafa beats Novak in RG...

Additionally, I don't think Novak will be crushed if he doesn't win the French Open. The winning streak will come to an end, sure, but I believe Novak will be satisfied with a finals appearance at Roland Garros and Wimbledon because it's a step in the right direction – if he wins either or both will be a bonus. IMHO the US Open is where he will be expecting to win because he's made it to the finals a couple of times already.

(Djokovic lost to Rafa last year at the US Open, so if Djokovic loses another slam final to Rafa it's going to compound the believe that Rafa will win all their important meetings - Olympics, US Open, World Tour Finals. That's not a step in the right direction)

It's a step in the right direction with regards to Djokovic's progression as a player if he makes the finals at the French and Wimbledon because he hasn't been to the finals at those two majors before.

Re: If Rafa beats Novak in RG...

Well for Novak, he must be really pumped for that number 1 spot in the rankings, even if hge doesn't beat Rafa in the finals, as long as it's a close match I figure he won't feel too badly, all he has to do is take care of every one in his half

Re: If Rafa beats Novak in RG...

The thing i hate about my nadal (believe me, there is plenty of things i like)

Is the fact that he always puts pressure on his opponent. ALWAYS acts like the under-dog... FFS you are the greatest clay courter of all-time. Nadal is expected to win regardless of who he plays. Djokovic is expected to lose... i don't care about this streak non-sense... Nadal is a beast in the french open turf
