What happened to Leo Mayer?

In 2009 I watched a couple of his matches and practice sessions in Los Angeles and I remember thinking that the guy had quite a potential. Maybe a little too emotional but his game was promising.

What happened to him? Did he get injured or just lost his confidence out of a sudden?

RAFAEL NADAL and GRIGOR DIMITROV

Rafa winning at least one slam in 10 consecutive years is the best achievement in Open Era tennis since Laver won all 4 Grand slam tournaments in the same year!

Back injury. Then had a leg injury. Just starting to come back now. Injuries mostly, along with mental fragility.

He had a good RG last year, but he got injured at Wimbledon I believe, and it has been downhill from there.

Re: What happened to Leo Mayer?

He struggled with a back injury the second part of last year, had surgery this year and now he's trying to regain form. He won easy today in the FO qualifiers; but it's still a long way to go.

Hopefully he makes the Main Draw! I always thought that his hard court game was better than his clay game, hopefully his is fully fit by the US hard court season.

Re: What happened to Leo Mayer?

He'll be back in the top 100 in a few months, he has won a few matches in the challengers, only a matter of time. Too good a player to disappear.

But he lost 23 times against you.
's right. We have to also throw into the mix. But I do not think it is currently the decisive factor. But he has achieved in my opinion too much. Maybe this is crucial if I move him even closer after major victories. But 14 or 17 Grand Slam titles is a significant difference. At the present time there is no question that he must be the greater player than me.

Re: What happened to Leo Mayer?

Leo is doing great at the French Open! Won all of his qualifiers and has a pretty decent chance of advancing to the Second Round

Looks like he is going strong after all the injuries! Good luck, Leo
