Re: + 40-match winning streak, which one the most impressive?

Now it's becoming really interesting, if Djokovic wins Roland Garros, we can assume he will be the first man to win 50 consecutive matches in the Open era!

Just one win away against some mug in Paris to become the 6th man to win at least 40 matches in a row...

Voo, a question:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ll_surfaces.29

Why wikipedia says Borg just has 43 but Vilas 46?

TT Singles CH #52 - W: Eskisehir, Braunschweig, Kaohsiung 2015
TT Doubles CH #43 - W: CHENNAI 2016; Genova, Kaohsiung 2015; Guadalajara, Szczecin 2014; Bergamo, Cherbourg, Poznan 2013 (w/goOudinUSA)

I explained it many times - because ATP hasn't included Borg's 6 wins in the Davis Cup in 1978

Re: + 40-match winning streak, which one the most impressive?

McEncore's record of 42 includes 3 Masters (now ATP World Tour Finals, ATP season 1983), even though held in 1984.

So, McEnore's record in Season 1984 should be 39.

Also, Djoker record is more impressive, at least Djoker record includes Grand Slam (Australian Open).

Even though AO held in November to December for season 1984, McEnroe NEVER win AO in his career.

Hopman Cup, unlike Davis Cup and World Team Cup, not ATP Tour.

Re: + 40-match winning streak, which one the most impressive?

McEnroe holds two records:

- the most consecutive wins to open a season - 39
- the most consecutive wins to open a year - 42

The first one Djokovic has in the pocket to overcome - just three quick wins in Paris. I don't expect him to lose a set until quarterfinals...

Djoker have the dream Season Start - winning all 5 mandatory tournments (AO + 4 mandatory Master series, Monte Carlos is non-Master series.)

Re: + 40-match winning streak, which one the most impressive?

How close they were to lose before they were finally beaten?

49 - Borg
- match No. 30 against Victor Amaya 8-9 6-1 1-6 6-3 6-3 (1:3 and break point in the 4th set)

46 - Vilas
- matches No. 5, 40 & 45 were similar, he was 1-2 sets down, and won easily the last two sets

44 - Lendl
- match No. 35 against Vitas Gerulaitis 6-7(5) 2-6 7-6(6) 6-2 6-4 (Lendl saved MP in the 3rd set TB)

42 - McEnroe
- matches No. 11 and 30 (after losing the first set, won the next two 6-3 6-2/1)

41 - Federer
- match No. 26 against Andy Roddick 4-6 7-6(8) 6-4 (Fed saved 3 MP in the TB)

39 - Djokovic
- matches No. 26 (Nadal) & 38 (Murray) - two points away from defeat in the deciding set

Very interesting good stuff. I thought the Djoker was gone against Murray. These stats show how mentally tough you have to be in order to be so consistent.

Re: + 40-match winning streak, which one the most impressive?

Anyway, Djoker's 39-winning streak is more impressive than

- Borg 49 in season 1979-90 (no GS, but w/ 2 walk over) *
- Vilas in season 1977 (w/ US Open, all N. American win w/ 5 N. American titles, but all on clay)
- Lendl 44 in season 1981-1982 (no GS)
- McEnroe 42 in season 1983-1984, actually all in 1984 (w/ YEC, but no GS, only RG runners-up)

can be compared w/ FED 06-07, why?

8 titles including
- Davis Cup 2010, first ever for Serbia
- With Grand Slam (AO)
- Hardcourt + Clay (before Roland Garros)
- Win titles in continents (Dubai for Asia, AO for Australia, IW/Miami for America, Belgrade/Madrid/Rome for Europe)
- Win all first 5 mandatory tournament, first ever man to do so. (AO + IW/Miami/Madrid/Rome, Monte Carlos in not mandatory tournament and ranking point counted in ATP 500 series.)

* - some Borg claim that Borg lost to Vilas in 1980 National Cup is not ATP Tour, but according to ATP official site, National Cup = World Team Cup.
