Fernando Verdasco hits 100!

100 weeks in the ATP World Rankings at #10 or higher. Quite an achievement given that he has never been ranked higher than #7. Sign of a weak era? Or a sign of consistently high-level play? Discuss...

(Also this is Roger Federer's 450th week ranked in the top 10. For comparisons with other active players, see Cumulative Weeks In Top 10 (Active Players))

I support Andy Murray!

Re: Fernando Verdasco hits 100!

Cool.

He's been far from consistently good though. Basically since Wimbledon last year except for the slams (QF in US, 4R in AO) he's been pretty suckful.

If he doesn't get his shit together in the clay season his reign in the top 10 won't last much longer.

He will drop to his true ranking of 20ish after his clay court points come off.

Farewell mugdasco.

He's really verry overranked. Thankfully, he will be out of top 15 after RG.

Re: Fernando Verdasco hits 100!

Consistently high level of play? No. He got extremely lucky at the AO (should have been R2 loser) and has been a mediocre player outside of two tournaments (New York, San Jose) since Wimbledon of last season. But congrats to him on this achievement. I think at his best he's a top 10ish player, but he's never fully recovered from overplaying during the clay season last year.

Re: Fernando Verdasco hits 100!

He's screwed when he can't defend all his clay points. But on the bright side, he has next to nothing to defend after the clay season other than a quarterfinal at the US Open.

Monte Carlo + Barcelona + Rome. He defends 1,460 points there. He should be around no.15 before RG.

it wont matter what he does on clay... as long as he gives a clinic to raonic and two non-ranked juniors at some point during the clay season then verdasco will be super happy with that... he's losing the plot is fisaco... his reaction after being beaten by raonic really betrayed his state of mind... just an angry frustrated man who claims a mirror as part of his entourage... i predict a meltdown, finishing around 25-30, scraping a seeding for the aussie open in 2012..

Re: Fernando Verdasco hits 100!

He's pretty much not going to finish as low as 25-30 unless he gets injured or completely collapses. Most likely he'll be in the mid/lower teens after RG. With that said, as Slumpdasco put it, Nando doesn't have much to defend after RG to basically San Jose 2012 outside of the US QF. So it's not as if he's in a bad situation rankings wise, and he's still competitive enough to win a fair amount of matches. But we'll see if he can really capitalize or if he's just another player again.
