Re: IW: Theorical runs for top players

Is there any point to this thread? Any seed below the top ten has the chance to meet 4 of the top ten Take Almagro for example. Seed 11.

Almagro: Russel > Montanes > Ferrer > Nadal > Soderling > Federer

Gilles Simon
Dimitrov • Mahut • Paire • Hewitt • Raonic • Berdych • Gulbis • Murray

Thanks for the memories... Andy Roddick.

Re: IW: Theorical runs for top players

No, it shows you all the players "your" favorite would have to beat to win the title. Lubicic's victory was truly a tour de force last year. I mean, besides the top 4 quartet, no one has a reasonable chance to win a MS title like IW where all the top guys are there.
Consider Simon for example, he will beat Schuettler most probably, but 2 days later he faces Ferrer. Ferrer is quite on fire lately and Simon is up & down so it will already be a great performance if he beats him and then the day after it's Almagro, and even if he's able to beat him again, then Nadal the world n°1 waits in quarterfinals and it's only for a spot in semifinals. After a heroic match, a now completely exhausted Simon pulls out a victory, but he has not much time to celebrate, the day after Soderling (18-1 this year) is ready to play his first IW final, Simon miraculously stops him after a 3h match. Now Simon has played 12 hours and has passed 4 hours more on court than his ultimate opponent, Novak Djokovic. He has tapes everywhere and looks cadaverous on court. Djokovic looks strangely in far better form.
And you know it's not fiction, should this scenario realizes, it would end up this way. If Simon wins the title, then he should be given 2000 pts and not only 1000, because it's clearly a GS performance!

To win last year, Ljubicic beat Djokovic, Nadal and Roddick in a row. Good luck to anyone wanting to do this again.

Murray would have to play 4 top 10 players if the draw went that way?

if Tsonga beats Nadal, if Gasquet beats Roddick, if Raonic beats Federer, well then, everything becomes possible

Re: IW: Theorical runs for top players

yes theoretical like this thread,

but Soderling can choke ( remember his match against Dolgo at the australian open ), so it's not unreal to imagine Del Potro winning his match against Soderling

It's not impossible Ljubicic wins his next match too.

You expect Del Potro to overpower Soderling so early in his comeback?
Sorry, but that's about as likely as Young beating Murray....very very unlikely.

Anyway, if he does beat Soderling, we can count him as a top 10 player, seeing as how he just beat one and seems toi be getting back to his beast form. So, Murray will still have to play 4 top 10 players to win (Del Potro is pretty much a top 10 player if he beats Soderling, as that will signal his return to the top).

certainly a huge task,

but Del Potro plays like a decent top 20 player since San Jose, not his best level but it might be enough to beat an average/choker Soderling,

in fact I think Soderling can be in danger earlier in the draw ( Kohlschreiber ), so the path for Murray is not as difficult as the draw seems to be

Re: IW: Theorical runs for top players

On paper out of the top 8 seeds Roddick and Soderling have by far the hardest draws.

Berdych | Murray | Tsonga | Monfils | Raonic | Soderling

Legendary thread and it has only 14 posts. Best clown post/mug post ratio ever.

Roger Federer | Benoît Paire| Stanislas Wawrinka | Nick Kyrgios
