Poor Hanescu looses tight matches so often Today he was 30-15 at 5:4* & 6:5 in the 3rd set...

Hanescu is the definition of mental midgetry. You can just see it coming...

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

It seems Wawrinka has snubbed allez for vamos. And the Argentines are loving it.

Stan had a chance to close this match earlier with that BP at 5-5, with that easy forehand that he netted. A proper "some things never change" moment. He managed to compose himself in the tibreak though with a stunning point at 2-1*, Hanescu serving. I thought Hanescu had the point sown up with a backhand down the line but Wawrinka returned it with a solid forehand crosscourt followed by a stunning backhand down the line (winner) of his own.

He seems really pumped up for this one but he needs to start thinking about playing more straightforward matches if he wants to have anything left in the tank in a couple of days time.

All in all an enjoyable match. Cannot beleive they're thinking about changing the surface to hard.

And he had a chance to get two match points with that net cord which allowed him to go for the passing shot cross court winner... instead he pulled it just wide and the rest is history.

Wawrinka was clearly better. Would have been amazing if Hanescu actually won even though it was a third set tiebreaker.

People worried about his energy level for he rest of the week. Why? He has rested for over two weeks, so he should be fine.

It's not about this week, it's about next week.

He can't gain any stupid points from this tournament.

True, but he can gain rhytm and confidence on clay, and that helps for next week. After Acapulco, he has 1,5 week off, so no trouble if he plays for two long weeks.

BUT he won, that's the big difference. A bad match, okay, but he won nonetheless.

Wawrinka is a gun this year. Peter's coaching is telling. His star is shining brightly. Should win the tourney as he's much better than the other guys in the draw as well as other factors that have to be taken into account.
