I side with Gu...not sure that the game has passed him by, as concerns clay courts. He wouldn't be a contender in the big draws, but surely at his best he could have some good games with the likes of Chela, Robredo, Ferrero etc. Those guys are still very much a feature in the '250s.'
The main issue is his serve, as the problem he was having was more mental than physical. Serving yips can be extremely difficult to fully overcome. We saw a little of that with Djokovic, and you could argue that, even now, his serve isn't quite what it used to be.
Personally, I wouldn't be excited about him coming back as I think it will be a failed mission (serve).
