Personal Expectations In Tennis You Thought In The Past And Were You Wrong Or Right?

What things watching tennis did you expect to happen and what things did you get totally wrong?

I got these right:

1 After Wimbledon 2001 - Federer will win a great many slams amd be one of the all time greats - I predicted this after Federer bt Sampras at Wimbledon, I just knew from his game.

2 From End Of 2006 - After I saw him play in 2006 I thought Del Potro would win slams and be a top player winning slams.

3 Around 2001/2002 Serve and volley would die out and get less and less common - OK this one may have been obvious.

I got these wrong

1 In 2005 - 2007 I never expected Nadal to achieve that much outside of clay at least until Wimbledon 2007. i though reaching the final at Wimbledon in 2006 was an anomaly.

2 After Wimbledon 2002 Thought Malisse would be a top player and maybe even win a couple of slams, and have a career similar to say Henman, Haas or Moya. Oh Well.

What predictions did you make in the past and were u right or wrong?

Must admit that I am very shallow I just live day to day with a tournament and then forget about it. Do enjoy the tennis channel replaying older matches though.

I was very wrong about Nadal. Back in late 2006, I thought he would have a career similar to Guga and win like a total of 3 FOs and no slams outside clay. I thought he would be burnt out after 21 like Hewitt and win no more slams after that. Boy was I wrong.

Well, that's how things should've happened.

Maybe one day we'll know why they didn't.

I've never thought that Nadal will win a HC slam. But want can you do with cake draws and mug era with out of form top players.

RAFAEL NADAL PARERA

Career HIGHLIGHTS

2007|David Nalbandian strikes lucky to win against Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-0
2008|Mikhail Youzhny escapes Rafael Nadal 6-1 6-0
2008|Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was pushed to the edge by Rafael Nadal 6-2 6-3 6-2
2009|Juan Martin Del Potro survives Rafael Nadal 6-2 6-2 6-2

BEST RESULTS ARE YET TO COME....

Right about - Tsonga and Verdasco will reach top 10 (against all odds)

Dimitrov will be a top 100 (and will be a top 20 sooner or later)

Wrong about Del Potro not winning this USO :S

Potentially right about Paire becomming top 20 like Grigoat

Right - When Sampras retired I thought that tennis would enter in a mug era
Right - Goran one day would win Wimbledon
Right - People would see Agassi's real face (well, this one is still only partially right)

Wrong - Djokovic, after IW 2008 to win more slams in 2008-10
Wrong - Hewitt, I was expecting 1-2 more years of domination from him (glad to be wrong here)
Wrong - After the summer of 2008 I thought Andy Murray would win a GS

Agree. Nadal got lucky he got such a colossal mug in his first HC slam final, otherwise he'd never win it.

Re: Personal Expectations In Tennis You Thought In The Past And Were You Wrong Or Rig

Wrong:
Roddick to win about 5 Slams. (2002)
Nadull never to win anything other than RG. (2005)
Ginepri to become a top 10 player (2004)
Sampras to come back (after his retirement)
Blake to reach a Slam final (2005)
Right:
Fish to have a new best career season in the future(2006)
Karlovic finally to reach a Slam QF (before that wimbledon)
Agassi not to retire at least til the age of 35 (2001)
Safin to retire early (2007)
Maybe right:
Federer to finish career with 16 Slams (2007)

Mardy Fish!

Brian Baker - Steve Johnson - Lleyton Hewitt - Carlos Berlocq - Tommy Haas - Ivo Karlovic - Richard Gasquet - Kevin Anderson - David Ferrer - Michael Russell - Fabio Fognini - Dustin Brown - Somdev Devvarman

Right: I predicted Rafa to win Wimbledon somewhere around 2006, and so he did.
Wrong: I expected MuzzaWussie to be able to capture a GS title by now.
