Your Favourite Grand Slams?

Which are your favourite grand slams you enjoyed/appreciate the most, for the overall tournament and matches that took place.

Mine would be:

1 Wimbledon 2001 - Completely epic and full of exciting matches
2 Wimbledon 1992 - Agassi's first slam, and the first one I got into tennis

Wimbo 01 was good, even if my heart was somewhat crushed when Goran beat Henman.

Re: Your Favourite Grand Slams?

wimbledon 2003 : feds first slam and then went on to set an unseen high standard in mens tennis.

roland garros 2008 : probably one of the most dominating performances ever in any slam.
wimbledon 2008 : a breakthrough in the mens game. the beginning of rafas era.

roland garros 2009: many thought fed would never win this but a player of feds caliber deserved to win this and he did.
usopen 2009 : del potro beats both rafa and fed in a slam something which has never been done before and probably will never happen again.

Re: Your Favourite Grand Slams?

The USO 09 where Del Potro takes it from Federer. I predicted that the two would reach the finals, however I had Federer winning it. After Del Potro upset Federer. I picked out Soderling to upset Federer, Berdych to upset Federer, and Djokovic to upset Federer in the consecutive tournaments to follow.

I liked the FO 09 in terms of the result, not the overall performances. The result was that Federer can win a F0.

I liked the USO 10 because much like the FO 09, it proved that Nadal can win a slam on any hard court.

My favorite tournament in general is probably the ASO. The FO has a lot of players that crash out because they're not adept to clay performances. The same can be said with Wimbledon, some players seem to have problems on grass. The AO and USO seem to be the courts where most players have some fair level of success and results.

It's a coin flip between the AO and USO. They get a ton of classical 5 setters and some unpredictable results. However, from what I've seen in the last 6-7 years, I feel that the AO is a bit more exciting. Each year it seems like one player has an amazing run of some sorts.

In 2004 Federer crushes a powerful Hewitt.
In 2005 Federer gets upset by Safin.
In 2006 Baghdatis makes an incredible run.
In 2007 Gonzalez makes an incredible run.
In 2008 we got to see a final without Federer or Nadal, consisting of Djokovic and Tsonga's incredible run.
In 2009 we got to see Nadal play Federer for the first time on a hard court slam and come out on top. (Challenged people's beliefs that Nadal can't play outside of clay/grass).
In 2010 we got to see Andy Murray walk through most of the players with ease, and with a heavy backing to take the title, Federer demolishes him.

So I think the AO is the most interesting and certainly the most surprising of the slams. The USO would probably make a close second for me, except, the matches seem more or less (most of the times) predictable.

Re: Your Favourite Grand Slams?

imo, take nadal away, and people might be considering fed the 2nd GOAT for clay.

Re: Your Favourite Grand Slams?

RG 2009 for me, the final result was so worth all the ~trauma~ that came before it

Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the top?

Roger // Rafa // Raonic // Söderling // Goffin // Ivo // Wawrinka // Baker // Delpo
