AO R3: Forehando Verdasco def. Kei Nishikori 6-2 6-4 6-3

39 winners to Nishi's 15, and only 4 more errors as well so he seemed very in control.

Interesting battle against Berdych ahead.

Re: AO R3: Forehando Verdasco def. Kei Nishikori 6-2 6-4 6-3

Good match from Nando. Definitely an improvment, though Nishikori was basically crap. He had twice as many UE's as winners. Nando had only a 36-30 in UE-Winners ratio. And his netplay wasn't that great either. All in all a good match, though nothing spectacular either. He has to step up his game in order to win over Berdych.

His 1st serve % was pretty good though, and as the OP said, his forehand was very strong in this match!

Fernando played good. I hope he can continue this form.

Yes, he will... but I think he is capable of it. He is playing so much better than the end of last year.

Good job by Verdasco, big matchup against Berdych next. Nishikori had a great AO.

No resistance from Nishi whatsoever? Good run for him anyway

Verdasco showing signs the eternal slump might be over. Time for Tomas to end that run, hehehe

I should correct myself. Verdasco had 39-29 in Winners-UE ratio, better than what I thought.. sorry about that.

well.. I don't know what was up with Kei. He seemed a bit injured. Asked for a medical time out at some point. It didn't seem like it was too bad either though.

And yeah, Nando finally seems to be out of his slump, and I'm glad about that!

Nishikori is one of the most overrated mugs on this board. Even at his very best, I saw no indication he has the power, the serve, or an outstanding shot, all of which are required to be top 30. He has an attractive game and is from a country that needs a top player, but I'm afraid he's nothing more than a glorified pusher with bad fitness.

Is nando through his tough period?

Juan Martin Del Potro

But he lost 23 times against you.
's right. We have to also throw into the mix. But I do not think it is currently the decisive factor. But he has achieved in my opinion too much. Maybe this is crucial if I move him even closer after major victories. But 14 or 17 Grand Slam titles is a significant difference. At the present time there is no question that he must be the greater player than me.
