Van Der Merwe is such the perfect match-up for Don. He needs to take advantage. He keeps getting relatively easy qualifying draws in majors. He's not going to keep being lucky so hopefully he can start winning GS matches.

He's on a tear. The ATP needs to watch out.

No but really he needs to qualify

Paradorn Srichaphan
Kei Nishikori, Donald Young, Somdev Devvarman, Dustin Brown, Steve Johnson, Yannick Maden
Robert Farah, Clement Reix, Alexander Dolgopolov, Nathan Thompson

is he a good matchup? I would've thought otherwise but I haven't watched Van der Merwe's game that closely.

Yeah, Van Der Merwe can't overpower Don. He doesn't have an overpowering game, his best attributes are his serve and his BH slice, and decent consistency. He goes to the net a lot off his serve. Don should be able to beat him from the back and when he comes in, Don likes a target. Perfect match-up.

Also VDM played for 2+ hours so fatigue could be a factor.

Yeah I did notice that and Don's two matches were under 2 hrs combined (57 and 58 I believe). Hopefully he can just get the W and then we would see about his draw, a lot of tough draws for Qualys.

Good win for Young. He is still young and has a shot to enter top 30.

Grigor Dimitrov | Rafael Nadal | Juan Martin del Potro | Andy Murray
