Auckland R1: Mannarino def. Monaco 6-4 6-3

The frenchie was pretty solid and outplayed Pico with power and well placed shots

When Pico came to the net, he was passed a lot

Ouch. Pico!

I didn't see this match. Monaco has injury?

Never ever give up

Bad start of the year for Pico, was expecting more after the good runs he had on hard courts in the end of 2010. Time to regroup for Melbourne.

Then again Mannarino is such an interesting player, hope he goes far now.

Mannarino was the better player all match long, much more consistent on serve and was hitting a lot of good passing shots and returning everything Pico threw at him

Roger “The Magician of Precision” Federer
Del Potro, Ferrer, Haas, Zeballos

Monaco looked quite unprepared and rusty, at some moments he looked like he was tanking the match...

I personally had a bet on Frenchman and tbh I'm quite surprised how well it went. Deserved win for him, Monaco needs more practice in the mean time.

Monaco a break up in each set but throws it away with some powder puff serving.

Juan Martin Del Potro

But he lost 23 times against you.
's right. We have to also throw into the mix. But I do not think it is currently the decisive factor. But he has achieved in my opinion too much. Maybe this is crucial if I move him even closer after major victories. But 14 or 17 Grand Slam titles is a significant difference. At the present time there is no question that he must be the greater player than me.

David Nalbandian
