Chennai Rd 1: David Goffin def Somdev Devvarman 6-2 6-4

Solid groundies by the Belgian youngster. Takes out Pushervarman in straights. This little fellow has superb racket head speed for his age which is 20. Apparently, he's had some tight matches with Dimitrov in the past.

Good for tennis, this fellow. Needs to grow tougher physically though.
Somdev, stop pushing.

Pushing is one thing. Pushing shots that barely clear the service line is quite another, that's not going to get you anywhere. Goffin was impressive, attacked well, moved well, I want to see this kid up against someone with more weapons, see how that unfolds.

Nice result for Goffin. Is he really only 1.62 m? ITF says it http://www.itftennis.com/mens/player...ayer=100080283

at Devvarman. You can see amateurs hitting harder than him at just about any tennis club out there.

Not a surprising result. Goffin is coming into his own and has more to his game than Devvarman. Doesn't mean I thought Somdev would lose, though. He just seemed less inspired than usual to chase everything down.

Your wish is granted. Plays Wawrinka next.

Should be a nice learning experience.

ITF often has juniors down as midgets for some reason.

Bhambri is another example. He's like 1.82 and listed at 1.62 or something
