Doha R1: Gulbis slips by Hanescu 6-3, 7-6(8-6)

Was serving for the match at 5-4 in the second set and got broken to 15 and than fought back from 0-5 down in the tiebreaker and won 6 straight points and 8 of the last 9

some things never change..ernie still likes making things hard on himself

Gulbis had 38 winners to 22 UEs, a really enjoyable match

Gulbis can't a win a tie-break longer than 9-7 so at least has already won a tie-break from 0:5 down - it's an achievement, not every player wins such a tie-break in career

Not a bad match from both - Gulbis seems to be gearing up for that first GS win

Fairly good 1st match of the season by Ernests. Shouldn't have made that slip-up, when serving for the match at 6:3, 5:4 though. The start of the tie-break was also... khmmm... I was already looking forward to the 3rd set at 0:5 in TB.

Btw, anyone knows, why Gulbis plays with Wilson now instead of Head? Didn't know that he had made a switch prior to this match.

Probably got a contract with Wilson. 95% certain it's a paintjob anyway

Right. From 0-5 in tie-break, seems that mostly Nadal could do it. So good start for 2011.

On court interview, asking how he managed that, he answered:

"People used to talk about my mental weakness, now they will talk about my mental toughness. It is my new style."

Always fast funny answers: hope he believes it.
