In terms of style, do you prefer a single-handed backhand or a two-handed backhand?

I find the one handed BH to be more smooth, stylish and elegant than the two hander. Can't really explain why but it's just the way it seems to me.

what says you?

PD: please try to remember that there's more to tennis than fedal. dont want another fed-nad war here

I can generate more power hitting a single handed backhand but I can also play the double hander albeit with less pace even if it gives me more control. If I had to choose it would be the single hander as that is my natural shot and I love watching it also

Well I use a 2 handed so that one.

It is fun to attempt the 1 hander though.

it's also weird for me think this way as most of my faves happen to play with a two handed BH. Even i used to play with a two hander back in the old days in which i played tennis.

I had to learn and practice hitting the double hander mostly because I believed there is zero reason I couldn't play it. The single hander was already my biggest weapon and I wanted to learn something new. It was awkward at first but gradually it became a decent shot. Much better than Roddick's BH that's for sure...

If we're talking the very best backhands then I prefer a one-hander.

But it usually comes down to specific backhands. Even though I'd rate say, Haas or Calleri as the most aesthetically pleasing, give me Nalbandian over Federer or Robredo any day.

well, fed's backhand technique is pretty sound, it's just that the end result not always is. in any case, nalby's backhand works well for like 5 matches per year. on average i guess i'd rather have fed's backhand.

in terms of great single handed backhands, i think the kuerten one was the best. haas also has a pretty good BH but like Nalby it doesn't click for most of the season.

I'm not talking technique or ability here, just which ones I find most pleasing on the eye. Clearly someone like Calleri is one of the most erratic players of all time. I just loved his bh when he was on. Kuerten is a good call.

I hate Federer's. I almost die of shock every time he hits a winner off that side. Nalbandian's is hardly perfect but I think you'd be crazy to take fed's over it.

well, when nalby is in those rare times in which he actually plays well, i'd take his BH but on average i'd rather stick with fed's backhand.

i dont dislike fed's backhand from an asthetical point of view. in fact, i find it quite good in the style department - but thats just me.

One hander is more stylish in itself perhaps, but is the product more stylish? Double hander allows all manner of disguise and sudden acceleration. Think Safin, Murray, Burger Dave, etc.

I like one-handed backhands, but some two-handers are really nice, like Nalbandian or Safin.

it depends on the player, i think. the one handed bh has the advantage that it allows more versatility and allows a player to reach more easily and quickly some balls. also usually one handed players can slice the ball on the backhand a lot better. then again, there are also some of the disadvantages you mention.

Single-handers tend to be at least somewhat stylish more often, but plenty of two-handers I prefer over many 1H

I prefer watching a single hander; more elegant, natural, more variety. That said, seeing a sick Nalbandian CC angle is pretty nice, too. I play with a double.
