Post Bagels vs Bagelled (Active Players)

So I've trawled through the ATP Playing Activity of the current top 150 players plus anybody else I've heard of in the entire ATP rankings to try and compile statistics of how many times active players have bagelled other players compared to how many times they themselves have been bagelled.

Matches are included from Grand Slam, ATP Tour, Davis Cup, WTC and the Olympics. Qualfying rounds are not counted. Correct me if I'm wrong or you think I've missed someone out...

The most interesting way to rank players is by the difference between these two values. So here are the 20 best and 20 worst active players ranked in this way:

Top 20 Bagel Records

Code:

Re: Bagels vs Bagelled (Active Players)

The two names that instantly stand out are Filippo Volandri (+17) and Victor Troicki (-7), their bagel records fly in the face of their career rankings. The leagues are probably more of an indictment towards those that are most willing to give away a set at 0-4. Although the 'Worst...' league is also full of challenger level players who never quite made the step up to the ATPs and were always liable to a thrashing when they did, especially when it wasn't on their surface of choice.

Great effort Pipsy

OOPS! I accidentally left in main draw qualifiers for Volandri. It should actually be +12. Still not bad! Troicki's is indeed as poor as it looks

Edit: That actually puts Volandri at joint 21st with Verdasco, just off this list...

Re: Bagels vs Bagelled (Active Players)

Amazing work, well done for compiling it all!

Just wondering, what's been included/removed from your calculations here: Most/fewest times bageled? since some of the given/received numbers are different?

Thanks again, these are great stats!

Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the top?

Roger // Rafa // Raonic // Söderling // Goffin // Ivo // Wawrinka // Baker // Delpo

Re: Bagels vs Bagelled (Active Players)

Nice work, tippy4!

I suppose that just goes to show how, as good a match-player as Nadal is, Federer can just play at another level against top opposition sometimes. Incidentally, he's won more than half of his 70 bagels at Grand Slams!

Re: Bagels vs Bagelled (Active Players)

i dont understand why ppl care so much about bagels around here. they're meaningless. esp. considering that many times players choose to tank a given set in order to save forces/energy for the rest of the match.

He has 4 victories after being bageled in a set, out of those 20 total bagels. I thinks that's actually pretty impressive. Wonder how some other players compare.

No. Nadal managed to do it this year against Davydenko in Doha.

Edit: Nadal also lost to Gaudio after taking the first set 6-0. Actually lost 0-6, 6-0, 6-1, but that was back in 2005.
