Well I don't think he tanked but I'd be surprised if he strained every sinew to turn this one around once the first set was gone - he has an unusually long end to the already long season and no doubt for him the Davis Cup final is THE big deal for him these next few weeks.

Very disappointing, I thought he had a good chance of winning this tournament.

Expected, I had a feeling about this. Such a fast court doesn't suit Novak's game, instead favors a natural S&V player like Llodra. Didn't see it though.
We all know Novak's mind is on Davis Cup.

Why are people saying that Nole drops to nr 4? He's still nr 3 in the Race and the Rankings. Sure, if Murray progresses further, he might overtake Nole, but that's not given.

After Nadal beat Monfils at Doha, before AO 2014

Only Del Potro can take him out before the semis, and he won't. Nadal is winning the AO, bet your house on it.
Somewhere out there, there is a homeless person who once took betting advice from GSMnadal

but Murray must face near impossible challenges: Cilic first tonight and...the all-mighty invincible unstoppable Monfils in quarterfinals! He can't stop history, Monfils will start his All-Time Great run in Paris. Do you really think Andy has the slightest chance to beat him? Isn't it a bit delusional to hope that Murray can beat the french Nadal? based on french medias alone, Monfils is already Paris champion.
