Andy Murray wants to be John McEnroe or Andre Agassi

Quote from the Interview with Andy Murray on the official site of BNP Paribas Masters
Q: If you were a tennis player other than yourself, past, present, future?
A: I like watching McEnroe, well I like McEnroe. It's good fun to watch, good character. I love Agassi, well I loved watching him when I grew up..

Still shining: Roger Federer / Andy Murray / Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Stars of Tomorrow: Nick Kyrgios / Kyle Edmund / Borna Coric / Francis Tiafoe

I don't see the big deal here Both players mentioned were good players. Andre probably much more so than John, but Andre also had a much longer career as a Pro Tennis Player than John did.

I will take John's career over Andre's, anyday. Interesting that both had motivation and substance problems, yet had great careers.

No doubt.

Agassi has very few achievements to boast over Mac. One Slam more, career Grand Slam.

OTOH McEnroe has 4 consecutive YE nr 1 finishes, more Wimbledon and US Open titles (2 most prestigious Slams), great Davis Cup record and an awesome doubles career.

After Nadal beat Monfils at Doha, before AO 2014

Only Del Potro can take him out before the semis, and he won't. Nadal is winning the AO, bet your house on it.
Somewhere out there, there is a homeless person who once took betting advice from GSMnadal

With his mouthing off, he's well on his way to being McEnroe.

Actually, I'd rather be Steffi than Andre. Calendar Golden Slam > Career Golden Slam.

Kicking shit around when he's frustrated is a good way to emulate Andre, too.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

Re: Andy Murray wants to be John McEnroe or Andre Agassi

Agassi lost his first 3 GS Finals, just like Murray is about to. They do share some similarities mentally, I can see it. And both have the best 2-handed backhands. But Agassi was known for playing too aggressive, while Murray is known for playing too defensive.
