Basel R2: Djokovic edges Nieminen 6-4 7-6(6)

An excellent tennis match. Jarkko fought like a hero in the second set and saved several break points but Novak saved 2 set points and turned the breaker around.

My God is it nice to see Nieminen back to playing world class tennis! He is such a wonderful guy off the court, and to see him hitting the ball this cleanly is a real pleasure. Congrats to Novak, as he had to dig deep to win against an in form Nieminen. Novak celebrated afterward like I haven't seen him celebrate in a long time, as he had to come up with some superb shots to win this one.

Good fight from Nieminen, he gives very little free points, nole had to work for his win tonight. Nole is going to have to play a little better imo if he wants to beat roger for the second straight year.

Entertaining match, both were great, Nole was clutch in the most important points, also, Nieminen served really good.

Nice to watch a tie-break with two mental giants. Nieminen nothing did badly when he led 6:4 in the tie-break - D'Joke played 4 straight points really well

Great match! Novak played great when he's in danger and Jarkko best performance I saw from him in a long time.

He really played well on the last few points to win in 2... good enough reason to celebrate

The Finn is pretty breathtaking when on, sheesh. Almost forgot how good he used to occasionally play before the injury.

So someone recently informed me that my sig was empty. Said I needed a life affirming motivational quote by a positive role model like Einstein or Oscar Wilde...

Great tip to stay fit and mobile: If you run up and down the stairs two steps at a time at least once daily, there will never come a time when you can't do it. Until of course one day you mistime a step, collapse and break all your bones... That would suck. But you had a good run.

Re: Basel R2: Djokovic edges Nieminen 6-4 7-6(6)

Great match. Jarkko is really showing a level that he hasn't had since he was top 20. His ability to redirect shots with great timing is really impressive. He's also more aggressive with his entire game than he's ever been. He just made a few loose errors here and there and combined with Nole's great defensive/counterpunching game, he didn't quite have what it took to win. Nole was really excited after winning this match and showed plenty of emotion, he was forced to raise his level which he did at the end of both sets. Nole served well, and was pretty good from the baseline, but could have been better. He got the win and that's what counts.
