Montpelier QF: Monfils def. Isner 3-6 6-4 6-4

Monfils at his absolute best in that final game. Back to back to back highlight reel points. If only he showed it more often and cut out the brainfarts.

A rats

Great return from Monfils on match point, Isner managed to ace away loads of other break points.

Re: Montpelier QF: Monfils def. Isner 3-6 6-4 6-4

Lame end to last sets two/three for Isner, too many errors and poor shots. Not in good form though, so not as mentally clutch as usual. His first serve was particularly weak today as well, seemed to be struggling to find the big bombs.

Monfils seemed a bit intimidated the opening set, doesn't seem to like the pressure of having to constantly hold.

Last game reminded me of the Monfils that owned Nalby in DC semis
Also, first match between this two that doesn't have a tiebreak.

This. Monfils can at least, very rarely, play good tennis. Watching Isner's game apart from serve is pure comedy. All serve mug indeed.

Yeah,so amazing that even playing like that,he would have lost that game 40-0 against the likes of Murray,Djoker or Nadal......
Monfils is good when it comes to beat the weaker players or players out of form(Nalbandian,Gasquet) but when he plays the top players then his game (and lack of talent) is showed up.

Re: Montpelier QF: Monfils def. Isner 3-6 6-4 6-4

That was a really good last two sets from Monfils, really used the crowd effectively. Served BETTER than Isner did throughout the match, which is somewhat surprising. His return of serve and movement really came through for him today, and put a lot of pressure on Isner. John didn't play that well today. Return was poor, didn't serve as well as usual, and struggled with his range. An entertaining match, a good victory for Monfils over someone who has given him trouble. Should be a great match v Tsonga tomorrow.

Any win against against Isner is a good one for Gael

Tim Henman--Gael Monfils--James Blake--Donald Young--Rafael Nadal--Jo-Wilfried Tsonga--John Isner--Janko Tipsarevic--Richard Gasquet.
