short list of career golden slam winners:

Calendar Year Golden Slam

The term Golden Slam (initially "Golden Grand Slam") was coined in 1988 when Steffi Graf won all four Grand Slam singles tournaments and the singles gold medal in tennis at the Summer Olympics in the same calendar year.

Tennis was not an Olympic sport from 1928 through 1984 (except as a demonstration sport in 1968 and 1984); therefore, many top tennis players from the past never had the chance to complete a Golden Slam. Nevertheless, even with tennis on the Olympics, a Calendar Year Golden Slam could not have been accomplished by any player except Maria Bueno (1960) and Martina Navratilova/Pam Shriver (1984).

Career Golden Slam

A player who wins all four Grand Slam tournaments and the Olympic gold medal during his or her career is said to have achieved a Career Golden Slam.

* Singles players who won a Career Golden Slam (a singles Career Grand Slam plus the Olympic gold medal in singles):
o Steffi Graf (1988 French Open, 1988 Australian Open, 1988 Wimbledon Championships, 1988 Olympic gold medal (women's singles), & 1988 US Open)
o Andre Agassi (1992 Wimbledon, 1994 US Open, 1995 Australian Open, 1996 Olympic gold medal (men's singles), & 1999 French Open)
o Rafael Nadal (2005 French Open, 2008 Wimbledon, 2008 Olympic gold medal (men's singles), 2009 Australian Open, & 2010 US Open)

* Doubles teams that won a Career Golden Slam (a doubles team Career Grand Slam & the Olympic gold medal in doubles):
o Todd Woodbridge & Mark Woodforde (1992 Australian Open, 1992 US Open, 1993 Wimbledon, 1996 Olympic gold medal (men's doubles), & 2000 French Open)
o Serena Williams & Venus Williams (1999 French Open, 1999 US Open, 2000 Wimbledon, 2000 Olympic gold medal (women's doubles), & 2001 Australian Open)

* Individual doubles players who won a Career Golden Slam:
o Gigi Fernández: partnering Mary Joe Fernandez to win the 1992 and 1996 Olympic gold medal (women's doubles); partnering Robin White to win the 1988 US Open; partnering Jana Novotná to win the 1991 French Open; and partnering Natasha Zvereva to win the 1992 Wimbledon Championships and the 1993 Australian Open.
o Daniel Nestor: The 2002 Australian Open (partnering Mark Knowles), The 2007 French Open (partnering Mark Knowles), The 2010 French Open (partnering Nenad Zimonjić), The 2009 Wimbledon Championships (partnering Nenad Zimonjić), The 2004 US Open (partnering Mark Knowles), and the Olympic Gold Medal in the 2000 Olympic Games (partnering Sébastien Lareau).

Re: short list of career golden slam winners:

o Rafael Nadal (2005 French Open, 2008 Wimbledon, 2008 Olympic gold medal (men's singles), 2009 Australian Open, & 2010 US Open)

i would also add that comparing andre's career golden slam with rafa's, i would give the edge to rafa based on:

1. the fact that rafa won 2 majors as well as olympic gold in the same year ('08).. whereas andre won no majors in his olympic year of '96..

2. the fact that rafa beat his chief rival, roger, at 3 of those cgs majors ('05 french, '08 wimbledon, and '09 aussie open), and multiple times in at least one.. whereas andre only beat his chief rival, pete, at only one of his cgs majors ('95 aussie open)..

3. the fact that one of rafa's cgs majors ('08 wimbledon) is recognized as the greatest tennis match of all time..

Who knows what Andre might've accomplished if he hadn't resorted to drugs. Rafa should take meth next year and then make an epic comeback, so things are fair.

Re: short list of career golden slam winners:

As a diehard Steffi fan as I am, I don't think the 'Golden Slam' means that much more than a 'Grand Slam'. After all tennis wasn't an Olympic event for half the open era.

Tennis has Great Games & Great Personalities.

We also have Andy Murray.

Re: short list of career golden slam winners:

It's an invalid measure.

Simply because it was only introduced into the late 80's.

The question we really need to ask is, who has won the "Real Golden Slam"......that includes the 4 majors and UMAG.

spoken like a typical roger fan..

i still recall some of roger's fans speaking dismissively of the french open back when roger didn't stand a snowball's chance in he!! of winning it.. but the minute he won his token r garros trophy last year (without having to play rafa ), all his fans collectively fell to their knees and shouted: thank you, jesus!

again, try not to be too obvious, quake.. you know you'd want nothing more than for roger to be able to add olympic gold to his resume and have the word 'golden' next to his career slam, and so would roger.. denying it is futile, btw..

besides, roger would not have competed if he did not give a crap about the olympics.. but of course he cares about it.. it's the one event where you compete for your country, a priceless honor..
