Top 101 Grand Slam Players of the Open Era--Post US Open Update

.... compiled by first computing a points-based ranking and then making adjustments (for poorly attended tournaments, successes in the pre-open era that count towards this list (!), etc.)

Note: top 5 are interchangeable, or at least top 2. Nadal I have now at #7 (from #13 at the beginning of the year), one more slam and he is #6. Active players are bold.

Like all lists and rankings, this one has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Rios: the list is purely slam based, Rios didn't do much at the slams.

Murray vs. del Potro: 0W-2F-2S-2Q vs. 1W-0F-1S-2Q. So it comes down to: is one GS (JMdP) title worth more than 2 (lost) finals and another semifinal (AM).

I guess this can be seen either way. There is a margin of error, certainly between #50 and #54.

I disagree with Lendl being ahead of Rafa. The career Grand Slam easily vaults him higher. I know Lendl was incredibly consistent, but Rafa has had several open-era records himself.

Do Federer, Agassi, Rafa, Laver get extra points b/c they won all of them, or would Federer's score be the same if he had 5 Australians, and no Roland Garros title?

Can certainly be argued. I for my part am hesitant to "overpromote" in the heat of the moment. Stats wise it is still 9W-2F (Rafa) vs. 8W-11F (Lendl).

Anyway, the point is probably mute in the longer-term, as Rafa seems set to win enough titles soon to pull away with any metric.

No extra points, but then there is judgement involved in there as well. One could make a point for putting Agassi ahead of Connors, based on what you just wrote. But then, Connors won slams on 3 surfaces too (US Open when it was still played on sand).
