Why is Robin Haase in Como & not USO?

I noticed he is playing challengers in Italy (winning in Manerbio this week and highest seed in Como for next week). Anyone know why he wouldn't be in or trying to be in the USO instead?

the main draw entry list was made when Haase was somewhere around 120 on the rankings, so he would have had to play qualies.

I suppose he didn't want to play the qualies but it still seems like that would still be preferable to a clay court challenger in Italy with a max $4,300 for the tournament winner for someone like Haase (though I suppose he would have missed 2 clay court tournaments and their 180 potential total points...)

Haase is not looking for money, just for points. He wants to leave Challengers behind him asap. Fields of Challengers should be weaker during the US Open so points are relatively easy to pick up.

I suppose but if so, why did he play Wimbledon instead of challengers then as well?

because he had PR and didn't have to play qualies on Wimbledon, he was already in Europe and also played another grass tourney the week before in Rosmalen.

Re: Why is Robin Haase in Como & not USO?

Robin has basically accomplished his goal, which was make the top 100 and solidify himself into making the MD of the AO next season. I think Wimbledon was the opportunity to play that prestigious event, he had a protected ranking, and also because it is in Europe where he doesn't have to fly and spend money to the US to potentially miss making the event. It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense for guys like Haase to play qualifying when they can just play challengers and not have to worry about qualifying in the future. Now, unlike in June, we are later in the season nearing September, and these Italian challengers are easy points for him.

Re: Why is Robin Haase in Como & not USO?

He didnt want to change to a different surface is what he has said in an interview. And its because the qualifiers for the USO he had to play. I think it's a wise choice. Now he get to like #86 and if he does well at como he will reach like #70! Haase is not the best at adapting to a new surface so I why he stayed with challengers

Hyung Taik Lee is safe.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".
