Pretty tall and stocky, aggressive, takes the ball early off the return, likes to come to net, S&V's more than a majority of players, flat backhand that penetrates and is his major weapon, pretty good forehand, effective slice, good first and second serves, not the most natural athlete or tennis player, but has good and refined skills that make up for it.

Yeah he sounds like one to watch for the foreseeable future. As you say, he could finish the year inside the top 150 (maybe higher), and if he chooses his events carefully next year he might make a few marks in ATP draws...certainly the US '250s' after the Australian Open can have fairly weak draws. Of course he might choose to play the South American clay swing but from your description it sounds like hard courts could be a better surface for him.
Hopefully he can win his final qualifying match tomorrow...it would be interesting to see him paired with one of the weaker main draw players in R1.
