US Open QR2: Farah def Ouanna 6-4 6-2

Robert Farah's sizzling summer continues, now just one win away from the US Open main draw. Ouanna is a major mug now but this is a good win nonetheless.

here is a pic I took of him when I saw him at the NCAA's in May. This after he beat Buchanan comfortably

Paradorn Srichaphan
Kei Nishikori, Donald Young, Somdev Devvarman, Dustin Brown, Steve Johnson, Yannick Maden
Robert Farah, Clement Reix, Alexander Dolgopolov, Nathan Thompson

Great job, Robert. He's tearing through the pro circuit at such an impressive rate. A 150 finish to the season in the rankings isn't out of the question. Hopefully he qualifies and does well in the MD.

He was basically undefeated for a while, very impressive start to his pro career. I'll root for him to qualify.

If at first you don't succeed, lower your standards.

Yeah I've had an eye on him all summer...been tearing up the challenger circuit as flyboy says. Definitely a very strong contender for 'Newcomer of the Year.'

Not had the chance to see him yet...anyone care to share some information on his stature, game style etc?

Pretty tall and stocky, aggressive, takes the ball early off the return, likes to come to net, S&V's more than a majority of players, flat backhand that penetrates and is his major weapon, pretty good forehand, effective slice, good first and second serves, not the most natural athlete or tennis player, but has good and refined skills that make up for it.

Never has bad results. Always winning. I hope he makes the MD. Great representation for college tennis and I'd like to see what he can do.

Thanks for the insight mate.

Yeah he sounds like one to watch for the foreseeable future. As you say, he could finish the year inside the top 150 (maybe higher), and if he chooses his events carefully next year he might make a few marks in ATP draws...certainly the US '250s' after the Australian Open can have fairly weak draws. Of course he might choose to play the South American clay swing but from your description it sounds like hard courts could be a better surface for him.

Hopefully he can win his final qualifying match tomorrow...it would be interesting to see him paired with one of the weaker main draw players in R1.

What's this? Intelligent tennis discussion? What a gem!

Farah has been in ridiculous form the past few months, and from flyboy's description, I hope he keeps winning so I can watch.

Robert's been great, please qualify

He's a good player, good backhand return and he's shown mental fortitude when in tight situations.

Is there any angle the US can get to start throwing money at him and get him to switch Nationalities like they did with Sweeting? Please tell me they can't touch him.

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

Ouanna is laughable at best, a dumbed-down tsonga...

Amazing this Farah.

Summary:
  • played his first ever pro match in June and went on to win the whole tournament
  • has been 29-4 since (one defeat through retirement)
  • has two futures titles and a challenger title
  • now is in the final round of USO qualies and is probably 50-50 to advance (plays Lojda, so pretty winnable match)

Although he still hasn't played against a Top100 player - it is truly amazing.
