New Haven SF WWW: Stakhovsky or de Bakker

Who will win?
Sergiy's way to SF was more tough and long, he is sufficiently tired and has less time for rest. From other side, Stakhovsky is 3-0 in ATP semis and 3-0 in ATP finals (if taking into account doubles matches, Stakhovsky is 5-0 in ATP finals)!
It should be recalled that in Zagreb-2008 Stakhovsky(being only 209th in ranking) won as a LL and defeted Karlovic(21), Troicki(113), Tipsarevic(44), Bolleli (66) and Ljubicic(25) in final.
In StPeterburg-2009 he won as a qualifyer and, being only 93rd, he defeated Korolev(50), Safin(77) who was greatly supported by Russian fans, and finally Zeballos(54)...
Thiemo is younger, had relatively easy way to SF and has more time for rest. Had no final experience, but reached SF in Barcelona this year with wins over former Roland Garros champion Juan Carlos Ferrero(16) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga(10)...

They have a little bit similar faces, funny SF. I think De Bakker is going to win his first ATP title here.

Re: New Haven SF WWW: Stakhovsky or de Bakker

Additional info from ATP site (http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Ten...Preview.aspx):

Ninth seed Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine is looking for his fourth career ATP World Tour title, the second of the season, while the other three semi-finalists are trying to break through for their first career ATP World Tour title.

In the first semi-final on Friday, Stakhovsky will meet No. 12 seed and top Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker, who is making his second ATP World Tour semi-final appearance of the season. They are meeting for the first time.

In the second semi-final, No. 10 seed Viktor Troicki of Serbia takes on No. 15 Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan for the first time in an ATP World Tour main draw. They played in the final round of qualifying in Moscow in 2007 and Troicki won in straight sets. Troicki is trying to reach his third ATP World Tour final of his career (’08 Washington, ’09 Bangkok) and Istomin his first final.

FIRST-TIME ATP WINNERS – If Stakhovsky does not win the title, then there will be a first-time winner for the fourth time on the ATP World Tour this year. The first-time winners are: John Isner (Auckland), Ernests Gulbis (Delray Beach) and Andrey Golubev (Hamburg).

Stakhovsky in a semi = Stakhovsky wins title .

In seriousness I would also like for Sergiy to win, he has one of the nicest games in the top100 IMO.

After Nadal beat Monfils at Doha, before AO 2014

I've been cheering Thiemo since he defeated Tsonga at Barcelona and then came back to give Soda a very competitive match in the Semi-Finals. He is an impressive young talent. And good for Dutch Tennis and their fans.

Win deze wedstrijd, Thiemo! Thiemo in 2 sets!

I think Sergiy is the favourite, but Thiemo the bigger talent. If nerves don't get the better of him, he should be reaching his first final.
