New Haven R2: Baghdatis routines Andreev 6-2 6-4

Andreev really deserves his out of Top100 ranking. He even tried to fight, but after 4-5 shots in a rally - everything from him went out or into the net. No form at all, I wonder how bad Clement was in R1.

Baggy can do some damage in USO, Igor can not. Horrible weather conditions didn't help, but it shouldn't be an excuse.

not a good match and Markos shouldn't even play in this tourny.
I should be happy but would prefer if he had lost today and had more time to prepare for the USO.

The only reason Marcos decided to play in New Haven this year is because he promised the organisers last year that he would do so, when they were one of the few to give him a wild card when he asked for one.

thanx I didn't know that. It's nice that he keeps his word but if he has another big run he can easily end up exchausted and too tired for the USO and with another first round loss.. *sigh*

^Seriously he could just tank it next round.

I think he will play without trying too hard or wasting a lot of energy but won't tank on purpose.

Re: New Haven R2: Baghdatis routines Andreev 6-2 6-4

Not a good match, Marcos played like someone who had just enough to get by and that's it, and Igor was completely erratic, his returning was atrocious, and his backhand is a major liability now. He's actually regressed as a hard court player these last few years. He stands years behind the baseline and either hits it short or hits it out. No consistency in his game whatsoever. But he needs time and matches from coming back off his ankle injury.

Only one more week to go on the hard stuff and then clay challengers await Igor.

Supposedly Andreev produced some good quality stuff against Clement.

R-no doesn't have anything to cope with Andreev's serve+forehand combination. Igor can do whatever he wants to. Marcos has more weight on the shots, hits with more depth and a way better serve, so I think yesterday was more a result of the opponent than Igor himself.

Re: New Haven R2: Baghdatis routines Andreev 6-2 6-4

I just hope Baghdatis is not dead tired by the time the USO begins He's had a good summer and has played a lot of matches. Going deep in New Haven could hurt his chances next week

Just like all of you are suggesting, I hope he does tank against Chela or we will be seeing 30% first serving by the time the US Open arrives. He can potentially face two grinders in a row in chela and robredo, and that will just kill his energy. Chela isn't an easy out to start with nowadays, but just give the argentine his win and focus on flushing.
