Both guys needing victories, but Evgeny needs them even more than Fred. I wish both can finish in the top 100 so hopefully they can find form. Korolev hasn't played in a month so this is a good result for him, even if Gil is better on clay. Good luck to the ballbasher in the next round.

Fred can win a match depending on the draw he gets, but he seems to have stopped playing on hard or stopped believing he can win on hard court. He used to be better on the surface (just last year he had a few decent results) than he is now. Being a clay-only player will only get him so far.

Complitely agree. Hard surface matches was what bring him to top100 in the first place, like Miami, for example. This season he's avoiding all Hard and Grass matches, can't understand why. He really should have try to play Toronto and Cincy.

not expecting him to win his next match but stringing a couple of wins together would be great for evgeny after what has been a nightmarish season

True, Miami and Johannesburg were tournaments he did well in to get in the top 100. He should play more on it so he can become an all surface player. He loves Istanbul so I'm not surprised he decided to play there. I think he stayed in Europe because it made the most financial sense, and also because he focused on doing well in Istabul, he wouldn't want to go to the US, go back to Europe and then back to the US again, not wise. We'll see, he has to defend the Napoli win from last year, so hopefully he can do well at through the end of the season.
