Cincinnati R1: Fish def. Simon 7-6 (4) 7-5

Simon
Failing to defend 180 points will lead to another fall down the rankings. It hasn't been a good year for Gilles.

Re: Cincinnati R1: Fish def. Simon 7-6 (4) 7-5

Fishy not too match sharp, didn't quite seem confident enough to really go for his shots. Simon was sitting 6 feet behind the baseline, so plenty chances.

Simon's run at Washington looks a bit like an exception rather than a comeback.

Not really surprising as he was out for a long time with injury. He's a fighter, he will be back.

Rather intelligent match from Fish. Things are starting to get really creepy.

Thought this would be a close one, but Mardy has been in better form despite Gilles' good tourney in Washington DC

Gilles did fight back from 2-5 to 5-5 in the second set. In order to beat the top players, Gilles cannot afford to make many unforced errors. I hope he manages to avoid unforced errors in the coming weeks.

Simon looked better in the first set but Fish got lucky in a couple of points
both were serving quite well

Re: Cincinnati R1: Fish def. Simon 7-6 (4) 7-5

Simon should have won that first set, he won the majority of baseline points. Fish got pretty lucky with the slightest of let chords at *5-6 30-30 and then another at 1-1 in the breaker which pretty obviously bounced out but unfortunately Gilles played on.

Andy Murray

Gilles Simon - Juan Martin del Potro - Grigor Dimitrov

Pablo Andujar - Philipp Petzschner - David Ferrer - Mikhail Youzhny - Simone Bolelli

Julien Benneteau - Juan Monaco - Tommy Haas - Gianluigi Quinzi - Tommy Robredo - Guido Pella - Lleyton Hewitt

It's almost sure that Mardy will be seeded for the US Open.

Re: Cincinnati R1: Fish def. Simon 7-6 (4) 7-5

That was a really strange match to watch. Mardy looked nervous at times and not really on top of his game, and Simon was serving out his games really quickly. But somehow Mardy pulled it out of the bag. Happy

Re: Cincinnati R1: Fish def. Simon 7-6 (4) 7-5

too bad gilles came back from 5-2 to 5-5 and fish has a a bad reputation for bombing at crucial moments. but fish has won 2 titles recently, that gives confidence.

Decent match from fish. Picked him to make a run here, but he looks a bit shaky. Should have closed this out much easier.
