Wildcards at US Open

I Quote from http://www.usta.com/fan-favorite_bla...rd_recipients/

Quote:
Two-time US Open quarterfinalist James Blake (Tampa, Fla.) and a talented group of Americans consisting of Bradley Klahn (Poway, Calif.), Jack Sock (Lincoln, Neb.), Ryan Sweeting (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), and Donald Young (Atlanta), along with two international players -- Australian Carsten Ball and Guillaume Rufin of France -- have been awarded men’s singles main-draw wild-card entries into the 2010 US Open Tennis Championships. One additional wild card will be given to the winner of the 2010 US Open Wild Card Playoffs, held August 18-20 at the USTA Player Development Headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla. The 2010 US Open will be played August 30 – September 12 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y

Players receiving US Open qualifying wild cards are: 2009 USTA Boys’ 18s National Champion Chase Buchanan (19, New Albany, Ohio), 2009 Wimbledon boys’ singles runner-up Jordan Cox (18, Duluth, Ga.), 2010 French Open boys’ singles runner-up Andrea Collarini (18, Boca Raton, Fla.), Jarmere Jenkins (19, College Park, Ga.), Steve Johnson (20, Orange, Calif.), Greg Ouellette (24, Ormond Beach, Fla.), 2010 USTA Boys’ 18s runner-up Bob van Overbeek (18, Boca Raton, Fla.), Rhyne Williams (19, Knoxville, Tenn.), and 2010 US Open National Playoffs men’s champion Blake Strode (23, St. Louis).

Re: Wildcards at US Open

James probably deserves one after all he has done for american tennis. This will be his farewell tournament in my opinion.

Juan Martin Del Potro

But he lost 23 times against you.
's right. We have to also throw into the mix. But I do not think it is currently the decisive factor. But he has achieved in my opinion too much. Maybe this is crucial if I move him even closer after major victories. But 14 or 17 Grand Slam titles is a significant difference. At the present time there is no question that he must be the greater player than me.

There is still a playoff for the last WC, I believe.

Klahn was never in doubt. American NCAA champ that played at Stanford.

Realistically Ryan should have gotten one, but he can win it anyway in the WC playoff.

Re: Wildcards at US Open

Disappointing that last year's junior winner Bernard Tomic didn't get a wild card, or at least the Tennis Australia one. Perhaps he'll qualify anyway.

Re: Wildcards at US Open

Donald Young actually deserves one this year. Both him and Sweeting are playing decent and aren't that far from getting in directly.

These 8 will play for the last WC:

Chase Buchanan
Andrea Collarini
Alexander Domijian
Ryan Harrison
Jarmere Jenkins
Steve Johnson
Austin Krajicek
Tim Smyczek

Paradorn Srichaphan
Kei Nishikori, Donald Young, Somdev Devvarman, Dustin Brown, Steve Johnson, Yannick Maden
Robert Farah, Clement Reix, Alexander Dolgopolov, Nathan Thompson
