Roger is just a shadow of his former self. Sad that the greatest tennis is forever in the past.

Too many unforced errors, but it was good to see him be a little more aggressive on returns.

I think Federer got 8/8 first serves in in that tiebreaker (and most were very good too) and Chela still made it a very close breaker.

Federer looks like a player ranked around 20 at the moment, with the odd flash of the old brilliance mixed in as a reminder of who he is.

He also looks like a Neapolitan popsicle in that outfit.

I think Federer had more winners than UE, didn't he? Wasn't as bad as I had expected. Chela fought well.

I watched the entire match and think Federer played well in patches but also lots of errors. You could see him trying some different tactics, like coming in off a return, slicing and approaching. A little early to tell how he will do for the rest of the summer based on this one match but I could easily see him doing well or simply losing before the finals.

I like this aggressive Federer, thing is, I doubt he'll be playing like this when he is up against it with a tough opponent playing great ala Soderling or Berdych, he goes for his shots only when he is too confident these days, and reverts back to passive play when he is under pressure, so I'll wait to see how he plays a better opponent.

Re: Toronto R2 The Swiss Maestro def J. I. Chela 7-6 (7) 6-3

Federer was great at times, ugly at other times. That 5-3 game in the first set was one of the worst performances I've seen from a player . Took Roger 7 set points to close out the first set, and of course a tiebreaker after being up 5-2. Second set was a bit more predictable.

Good fight from Chela. That pink shirt is an interesting look...

bad first set, better in the second. still looks very vulnerable but he has to take every win to try and build confidence. its obviously still very low.
